As an artist I would call myself a Romantic Pragmatic Expressionist

It is time and place, the here and now

I have been looking the work on New Aesthetics, up to now I agree with what it has have to say particularly on conceptual art. Not that I have problem with conceptual work it can be engaging, thought provoking and visually stunning but i think it needs to develop its own language away from Art. Its strange if I sat on a plank in front of a skip and declared myself a pianist the skip a piano i would be taken of to the funny farm, or if I jumped into the front seat of a plane and declared my self a pilot I think my world would involve lots of medication. For some reason the idea that everyone's thoughts, perception, values, knowledge are of equal value, has taken over in the Art world, an individuals aesthetic response is as valid as anyone else's but Art must be the connection of the artist struggling with the here and now to provide a space for the viewer to enter /occupy a classical gods space if you like. I did struggle with portraiture but it does provide that space all be it in a different way, with the viewer looking into the character portrayed in the painting.

The artwork is the more important element; the subject is there to provide a starting point for me to engage with the creative processes, My work at the moment is reasonably small in scale and has Vlaminck quality about it with quite heavy brush strokes
I have long been fascinated by the nature of aesthetic values and how I as an artist interpret those values, what is the difference if any between intrinsic and physical beauty? How does one interact with the other, can one exist without the other or is there a point of separation, if so where or what is it?
As an artist I want to push the boundaries of the aesthetic, to discover and exploit the point of disconnection while at the same time hold on to the subjects and the artworks integrity.

For me the act of painting can only be a poor reflection of a small facet of the human condition. When we look back through our histories and revisit some of these facets, it is art that gives us the best insight into what we call the human condition, humankind has a need to explore and represent the world as we see and experience it. Art can describe that experience, the thoughts that words cannot represent, our faiths, beliefs, perception and feelings, can all be expressed through the act of creativity
